Former Residence of Renowned Artist William Andrew Christenberry Jr. Hits the Market

The Hatfield Weir Team of Washington Fine Properties is proud to list 2739 Macomb Street NW, Washington DC, the late William Andrew Christenberry’s residence and studio. The home is offered at $2,050,000.

William Andrew Christenberry Jr. (1936-2016) was an internationally acclaimed American artist, collector and teacher. Perhaps best known for his collages and photographs of weathered and aging rural structures across the American South. Christenberry was also a renowned painter, sculptor, and draftsman whose work is represented in the permanent collections of museums and galleries worldwide.

Christenberry moved with his wife, the former Sandy Deane, to Washington D.C. in 1968, when he accepted a teaching position at the Corcoran School of Art. The couple moved to the home located at 2739 Macomb Street NW in 1974. Later, Christenberry commissioned the construction of a large, double-height open studio on the adjacent property, where for the next forty years, his workshop and personal gallery resided.

The Christenberry residence and studio are located within the heart of the Cleveland Park neighborhood. Sited prominently above the street on a large lot, the home’s wrap-around front porch invites visitors to sit and linger. The house faces directly south and is filled with natural light and architectural character. The interior has spacious rooms with high ceilings, hardwood floors, and oversized windows. The neighboring lot includes Christenberry's studio, a small pond, and a picturesque private garden. There is both a garage and off-street surface parking.

The Hatfield Weir Gale Team is consistently ranked as one of the most successful real estate teams in the Washington Capital Region, and Washington Fine Properties is recognized as the premier brokerage firm in the Nation's Capital.

Together, they are proud to represent the sale of this distinguished property.
